Dr Fariba Behnia-Willison is a fully accredited Gynaecologist, an advocate of women’s health and specialises in female pelvic medicine, reconstructive surgery, and single incision/advanced laparoscopy.

Approach

Dr Behnia-Willison is the founder of FBW Gynaecology Plus in Adelaide, Australia. She provides a women-centred approach to care, alongside a team of dedicated and skilled medical professionals.

Dr Behnia-Willison is understanding and approachable during her consultations, opening the conversation on challenging health topics, and in doing so encourage women to feel comfortable discussing their health concerns. She is fluent in German, Persian (Farsi) and Dari and is an active member of numerous charity and community groups. She is also the founder of Desert Flower Australia, which supports victims of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Her innate passion is not only treating women but also working towards a quality of life and empowerment.

Education

Dr Fariba Behnia-Willison completed her medical degree in Germany then Obstetrics and Gynaecology training in Sydney. She obtained a Master’s degree in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) at the University of Adelaide and has a special interest in pelvic floor disorders and advanced laparoscopy.

Research

Dr Fariba Behnia-Willison has pioneered the use of MonaLisa Touch laser and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and fat grafting on pelvic floor disorders and received multiple grants for research in this area.

Dr Behnia-Willison is currently researching vaginal fat grafting for non-surgical pelvic floor dysfunction/sexual dysfunction in female genital mutilation victims. She leads non-invasive nonhormonal innovative studies in women’s health for pelvic floor disorders such as lichen sclerosus, painful intercourse, prolapse and urinary incontinence.

Accomplishments

Dr Behnia-Willison is a senior consultant at Flinders Medical Centre and Senior Lecturer at Flinders University along with participation in robotic surgery training at Ashford Hospital in South Australia. 

Dr Fariba Behnia-Willison pioneered Single Incision Laparoscopy in Australia and performed the first Single incision Mesh Hysteropexy in the world. Single incision Mesh Hysteropexy results in shorter hospital stays and may minimise the risk of infection and bleeding during surgery. She conducts regular workshops teaching single incision laparoscopy to emerging specialists and senior Gynaecology trainees.
