LLETZ
At FBW Gynaecology Plus, our clinicians perform Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone (LLETZ), a minor procedure used to diagnose and treat abnormal cells on the cervix. LLETZ is commonly recommended following an abnormal cervical screening test and colposcopy when precancerous changes require treatment.
The procedure involves using a fine wire loop carrying a low-voltage electrical current to remove the area of abnormal cervical tissue. It is usually performed under local anaesthetic in our consulting rooms and typically takes around 15–30 minutes.
The removed tissue is sent to a pathology laboratory for further examination, helping to confirm the diagnosis and ensure the abnormal cells have been completely removed.
LLETZ is a highly effective treatment for cervical cell changes and plays an important role in preventing the development of cervical cancer.
