What is Lichen Sclerosus?

Lichen sclerosus is a long-term problem of the skin that is characteristic of having patches of skin look white, thickened and crinkly. It mostly affects the genital and anal areas. Whilst it is unclear what causes this condition, lichen sclerosus can be itchy, painful and cause permanent scarring. It affects around 1 in 80 women [and] it can happen at any age but is most common in middle-aged and elderly women.
